Will you vote for STEPHEN HARPER and the conservative candidate?

The Conservative Party of Canada has never taken Toronto Danforth seriously. In the past they have run rather weak candidates. Their Modus Operandi seems to be NOT give their candidates much leeway in terms of how to run their campaigns. But, this is just speculation. We will have to see if Mr. Keyes appears in the debate.

In any case, just was talking to somebody in Toronto Danforth who received a “cold call” from the Conservative Party. The question asked was:

Will you vote for Stephen and the Conservative Candidate? At the time of the phone call there was no Conservative Candidate. Could it be the Conservative Candidate is just the mechanism to vote for Mr. Harper?

Remember on March 19, you are voting for a candidate NOT for a leader and not  for a party!

Absolutely correct. Typically in elections one needs to balance the candidate vs party vs leader question. Something I personally struggle with … which is why I love municipal elections. No such dilemma exists.

In this bi-election, we have the opportunity to vote for our local candidate knowing that the result will have no impact on which party forms government or has the balance of power. It offers a unique chance to vote for someone who we really believe will (attempt) to represent the interets of our riding without having to weigh competing interests.

To me this reinforces the need to really study what each candidate brings to the table – regardless of their political stripes.
