The National Post joins he chorus. Note the title refers to “Layton’s riding”. Interesting commentary from Dennis Mills distinguishing support for Jack Layton from support for the NDP.

  1. Here is the comment that we left to the National Post article:

“Wow, I never thought I would see the day when the National Post and the Toronto Star sing to the same tune. The title:

“NDP support still strong in Layton’s riding”

    1. This “so called” poll was done before the Liberals and any other candidate even had a chance to get going. Five weeks is a long time in politics.

    2. Toronto Danforth is not Jack Layton’s riding – it belongs to the people of Toronto Danforth.

    3. Your title focuses on the Party – “NDP”. As Dennis Mills points out the candidate is distinct from the party. Furthermore, the results in the last election may have been support for Jack Layton (the man who brought us the Conservative majority).

    4. Dennis Mill’s comment suggesting that Layton’s success in Toronto Danforth was due to money is interesting. It is clear that the NDP has a lot of money. It is clear that the NDP election machine is spending more than anybody else in Toronto Danforth. It is clear that the NDP is about the NDP. The simple fact is that the NDP is the party of money in Toronto Danforth. It as though things have come full circle. I am reminded of the end of Orwell’s “Animal Farm” where the pigs had become indistinguishable from the humans.

As it stands now, democracy in Canada has become a playground for the political parties (which are essentially private clubs). Candidates owe their allegiance to the party and not to the people in the riding. The March 19 election in Toronto Danforth is an opportunity to change that. It is an opportunity to vote for a CANDIDATE THAT WILL REPRESENT THE RIDING AND NOT FOR A PARTY!

At present there a number of very strong candidates in Toronto Danforth. The most impressive candidates are NOT those affiliated with the tree main parties. These impressive candidates present Toronto Danforth residents with a real opportunity to send a message to the mainstream parties that the time has come to represent the people in the riding.

There are two Candidate’s meeting/debates in Toronto Danforth – March 1 and March 15.

Come out and meet your very impressive group of candidates. The National Post should come as well!
